Since FreeFavicon has launched we have generated 337088 favicons using our favicon generator, but all good things eventually come to an end and we have decided to remove our free favicon generator and simply focus on favicon downloads. It was the right time to remove it, we have seen a gradual decline in the use of the favicon generator over the years, and the code it used really needed an update. At some point in the future we might create a new version that uses a modern Javascript framework but for now the old PHP version needed to be removed.

In other news we have also undergone a redo of the site using the Astro web framework! The old site was a patchwork of PHP templates and WordPress and it was time to redo the whole thing using a modern framework. Astro has been amazing to work in and has made it easy to move from the old patchwork to a new modern system. It also means we have moved to a new host. Netlify now hosts the Astro version of the site with the favicon files being hosted on our own CDN.

We are not done with redoing the site but we think we have it at the point that we can now launch the new version. Stay tuned for new updates.
